Scottish Newcastle plan among 35 FDI proposals cleared

THE Government on Wednesday allowed the UK-based Scottish Newcastle Plc to invest Rs 83.33 crore in its Indian subsidiary, Scottish Newcastle India Private Ltd, to form a strategic alliance with the UB group and undertake technical consultancy, and marketing and distribution of beer and allied products.
A total of 35 foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals were approved on Wednesday by the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, here, worth Rs 183.35 crore. The Minister has also approved the Mauritius-based Alaghnim Industries' proposal to invest Rs 19.93 crore in Kirby Building System India (Uttaranchal) Private Ltd to manufacture pre-engineered buildings and its allied products.
Jardine Fleming has also been allowed to invest Rs 22 crore in JP Morgan for setting up an asset management company.
The UK-based Laing O' Rourke's proposal to set up a new joint venture company for undertaking construction and maintenance of residential and non-residential buildings worth Rs 17.5 crore too has received the green signal from the Government.
Merrill Lynch (Mauritius) Investment Ltd's proposal to invest Rs 10 crore in DSP Merrill Lynch for transfer of resident shares has also received the Minister's nod.
