Our Bureau

Bangalore , Feb. 22

NESTLING amidst the idyllic coffee estates of Coorg, the heritage bungalows of Tata Coffee would soon become holiday homes to aficionados of eco-tourism.

The company, while announcing its foray into the hospitality sector to tap the huge potential in the fast-growing nature tourism, said it has planned a `Plantation Trails' giving the tourists an experience of the coffee growing and processing during their stay.

Plantation Trails, Tata Coffee's holiday homes, located in and around Polibetta would offer 36 rooms in 12 bungalows being refurbished to provide a soothing complement to idyllic environs of the coffee estates, said Mr M.H. Ashraff, Managing Director of Tata Coffee Ltd.

He said: "Tata Coffee had built a strong heritage and made with its coffee brand.''

It is now time to take advantage of that heritage, he said, adding that the company decided to utilise the bungalows that fell vacant after downsizing the management staff following crisis in coffee sales.

With the tourist season round the corner, Tata Coffee hopes to cash in on the demand from plain leisure travellers to corporate holidaymakers who could benefit from the secluded getaways for their strategic planning and pure unwinding away from the stressful lifestyles, said Ms Chrisitne F. Jamal, Vice-President (Corporate), Tata Coffee.
