Spot rubber subdued

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Feb. 24

Spot rubber prices remained subdued on Friday. The international futures were in a cheerful mood but the domestic market refused to follow the trend as most of the traders were not confident enough to enhance their commitments.

According to sources, the market weakened on buyer resistance though there was not any selling pressure from growers or dealers. While the remaining grades and latex declined amidst extremely low volumes, sheet rubber was flat at Rs 80 at Kottayam and Kochi on comparatively better demand.

Futures up

NMCE March contract ended at Rs 82.36 (Rs 81.99), April contract at Rs 85.11 (Rs 84.78), May contract at Rs 87.60 (Rs 87.20) and June contract at Rs 88.90 (Rs 88.53) per kg for RSS 4. The April contract for the grade improved to Rs 85.00 from Rs 84.52 a kg on MCX.

The March futures for RSS 3 moved up sharply to 248.5 Yen (Rs 94.71) from 240.1 Yen a kg at TOCOM. The grade declined to Rs 90.85 from Rs 91.47 a kg at Bangkok spot.

The physical prices a kg were: RSS-4: Rs 80 (Rs 80); RSS-5: Rs 79 (Rs 79.25); ungraded: Rs 77.50 (Rs 78); ISNR 20: Rs 78.75 (Rs 79); and latex 60 per cent (per ltr): Rs 57 (Rs 57.50).
