Fair demand seen at Kochi tea sale

A fair general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the quantity of 8,71,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTCs were generally lower by Rs 3-8 and sometimes to Rs 10. Orthodox grades were also lower by Rs 6-10.

Exporters operated at lower levels compared to previous week. Internal market was selective and blenders absorbed only good liquoring CTCs.

CTC varieties

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 60-72, medium CTC realised Rs 55-59 and below medium were quoted Rs 47-53.

Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 105-124, while medium BOPD quoted at Rs 45. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 38-40, while residuals realised Rs 35. The leaf sale also witnessed a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,68,000 kg. Orthodox medium grades were barely steady to tending easier. Highgrowns were irregularly lower. CTCs witnessed less demand and were lower by Rs 3-8 with many withdrawals.

Exporters were selective on orthodox grades, while they were less active on CTCs.

Nilgiri range

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 58-75, medium orthodox realised Rs 43-50. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 55-58, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 50-52.

In the dust category, Kodanaad CL.BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 124, followed by Parkside Cl.BOPD-S by Rs 105.

In the leaf varieties Chamraj FOP realised the best prices of Rs 116.11 followed by Coonoor CL.FOP by Rs 114.
