Poultry Broiler prices seen to improve Consumption perks up G. Gurumurthy
Coimbatore , March 5 The procurement prices of both live chicken and shell eggs are expected to gradually go up next week following improved movement of these perishables in the market, thanks to the week-end demand seen in the last two days. "We find there has been improved movement of both eggs and birds to Kerala markets as well as within the State in the last three days. There is some scale up in poultry consumption," officials of the Broiler Co-ordination Committee (BCC) said.
Farm-gate prices up
The Palladam-based BCC, which raised the farm-gate price for live-bird from last week's lowest ever rate of Rs 15 a kg to Rs 22 on Thursday, has raised prices further to Rs 28. The broiler price is expected to go up to Rs 35 a kg shortly. "As there is almost no stock of broilers with the dealers, the week-end demand for chicken and the improved consumption have given the needed movement in the market encouraging the price recovery," the poultry trade sources said.
Table eggs
In the case of table eggs, the Namakkal-based NECC has set the procurement price at 65 paise and it is likely to scale up the rate on Monday when the farm-gate price will be reviewed. Though the export shipment of shell eggs continue to languish in view of the ban by the West Asian countries, the low egg rate offered in the local market has kicked up consumption demand, thereby improving the market sentiment and the volume of purchases.
