Shipping Malaysians come calling
The reports also suggest that the Malaysian ports are vying for more direct trade with India in preference to the present system of routing cargo through Singapore. Westport Malaysia top brass was recently quoted as saying that about 1.5 million TEUs came from India to Malaysia every year via Singapore. Not surprisingly. Malaysia, for example, buys nearly 300 million ringgit worth of onions, which would go to Singapore first.
