Excise duty cut

This is with reference to "Car price cut: No big deal," (Business Line, March 5): The report rightly points out the trade practices of some car dealers. In earlier years, car prices were slashed, should the Budget announce benefits to the auto industry, only to be increased within a few months with the usual refrain: "increasing prices of raw materials". This time the approach seems to be to withdraw earlier discounts to customers, thus passing on very little of the Budget benefit to end-users. The Finance Ministry should intervene and ensure that the benefit of the recent excise duty cut is passed on to the customer.
