The Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management at Nitte in Udupi district conducted a panel discussion on the Union Budget 2006-07 recently.
A press release by the institute said here on Monday that experts from the fields of banking, agriculture and industries participated in the discussion.
Welcoming the Government's proposal to include food processing in priority sector, Dr N.K. Thingalaya, former Chairman and Managing Director of Syndicate Bank, said that the agro-based processing industry is set for a vibrant growth. However, resource mobilisation for this sector should be more focussed, he said.
Dr N.S. Shetty, agriculture economist, said that the Budget has not looked into the thrust areas of macro-economy. Sectoral imbalances are not addressed in the Budget. Stressing the need for rationalisation of public expenditure, he said the Budget is silent on this aspect.
Mr M. Rajendra, Director (Finance and Planning), Lamina Group of Companies, Mangalore, spoke on corporate taxes and related matters.
Prof M.S. Moodithaya, Director of the institute, welcomed the gathering.
