Aurobindo's Citalopram gets Health Canada nod

Hyderabad , March 6

Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (APL) has announced that it has received product approval (notice of compliance) from Health Canada for Citalopram Hydrobromide 20 mg and 40 mg tablets.

The tablets are indicated in the treatment of depressive disorders. The active pharmaceutical ingredient of this product is manufactured at unit 1 of the company. The formulation facility of the company is already approved by Health Canada.

Citalopram Hydrobromide tablets are a generic equivalent of Forest Laboratories' Celexa and it is from a class of medications called `selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors'.

In a press release here on Monday, the company said Citalopram Hydrobromide 20 mg and 40 mg is the first formulation approved in Canada. The company is already selling the product in the US market.

APL has established a subsidiary in Canada to serve the local market and has also filed a number of dossiers, the release said.
