Bangalore , March 7

WebEx Communications Inc is eyeing the global software arena for potential acquisitions.

The company sells Web-based collaboration and conferencing software. It has over 64 per cent market share in the space. Its closest competitor, Microsoft, has 18 per cent.

The $308-million firm intends to acquire "small" companies working in the same domain.

Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of the launch of WebOffice suite, Mr Subrah Iyar, Chairman and CEO, said: "We are looking at companies with revenues of around Rs 1.2 crore."

The company will spread to sales force automation, ERP, and presence management domains as it expands its "on-demand" service offerings.

The WebOffice suite addresses the Rs 120-crore collaboration applications market in India.

The suite is targeted at IT outsourcing and off-shoring companies as well as banks and BPOs.

It is offered over the Internet on a subscription basis as part of the company's "software as a service" strategy. This frees users (and businesses) from worrying about platforms and geographic boundaries.

The company is currently working with Nokia on integrating mobile phones to the suite.
