`Co expresses satisfaction over fiscal benefits'

Kolkata , March 9

A decision on Tata Motors' proposed investment in a new facility for heavy vehicles in West Bengal is likely by the end of this month, according to sources in the State Government.

They said that, in terms of a recent discussion, the auto major had expressed satisfaction with the fiscal benefits promised by the State Government to the proposed project.

Accordingly, it is expected that the company may take a call on its proposed investment shortly.

The State had allocated 1,000 acres for the project at Guptamani on NH-6 in West Midnapore in January this year. Tata Motors officials had visited the location and expressed their satisfaction over it. This was followed by finalisation of fiscal incentive package.

"We have had a fruitful discussion with Tata Motors on the fiscal package and other issues related to the prospective investment. We are likely to meet again shortly," informed sources said. When contacted, a company spokesperson, declined to comment on the issue.

The company had previously stated that West Bengal was one of the few locations short-listed for setting up a truck manufacturing unit.
