Public Sector Banks Corporation Bank marks centenary with library Our Bureau

Mangalore , March 12 The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, became the first member of the hi-tech public library, built by Corporation Bank in Mangalore. Mr Chidambaram received the library card from Mr V.K. Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director of the bank. The Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy, became the second member of the library.Later, participating in the valedictory function of the centenary celebrations of the bank, Mr Chidambaram praised the bank for its performance. Terming Corporation Bank as one of the strongest banks in the country, he said the bank had grown by leaps and bounds after it was nationalised in the second phase. The bank, which appears to be a mid-sized one in the industry, would have to look forward to growing faster in the future.
Performance
Referring to the performance indicators of the bank, he said the credit-deposit ratio was one of the highest in the industry. The Finance Minister honoured the members of two self-help groups, sponsored by the bank, for their achievements. He also distributed scholarships and higher education loans to several students. Former chairmen of the bank were honoured on the occasion.
Hi-tech library
Earlier, inaugurating the hi-tech library, built at a cost of Rs 2.2 crore, Mr Chidambaram hailed the bank's contribution for its place of origin. Mr Chidambaram took keen interest to visit each and every section of the library.
