Strategy Corporate - Restructuring Star restructures India operations Our Bureau
New heads Mr Peter Mukerjea will lead the Star Group in India as its Chief Executive Officer. Mr Sameer Nair has been promoted to CEO, Star Entertainment in India.
New Delhi , March 13 In an organisational restructuring, Star's India operations has been spun off into two units Star Group and Star Entertainment with the former spearheading development of new business and the latter overseeing the day-to-day operations of the various channels. According to an official statement, Mr Peter Mukerjea will lead the Star Group in India as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), responsible for all corporate functions such as legal, finance, government affairs, corporate communications as well as managing Star's investments including Tata Sky, Hathway, Balaji and MCCS. He will also spearhead the development of new business opportunities in India. Mr Mukerjea will continue to report to Ms Michelle Guthrie, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong-based Star. Meanwhile, Mr Sameer Nair has been promoted to CEO, Star Entertainment in India, overseeing all day-to-day operations including programming, marketing, advertising sales and distribution while pursuing growth opportunities in new media including wireless and Internet. He will report to Mr Steve Askew, based in Hong Kong, who was today appointed as President of Star Entertainment in addition to being the Chief Operating Officer (COO). Commenting on the announcement, Ms Guthrie said, "The reorganisation reflects the scale to which our operations have grown in India. The new structure will enable us to optimise our resources in expanding our leadership position in the television landscape while aggressively creating new opportunities in India's thriving marketplace." Mr Nair has been instrumental in launching innovative programming that has enabled the flagship Star Plus to dominate the Hindi entertainment space.
