Black tea a hit among Chinese youth

Kohinoor Mandal

Kolkata, March 15

Chinese youths are taking a keen interest in the black tea produced by the Indians. China is the world's largest producer of green tea and the Chinese consumers have traditionally showed little affection for black tea.

This is another positive development for the Indian tea sector. China produces about 800 mkg of tea, of which 90 per cent is green tea.

Industry sources said a Chinese delegation recently came to India and visited some of the big tea companies, including McLeod Russel India Ltd.

There is no tea industry specific body in China.

The delegates who came to India represented the China Chamber of Commerce.
