MRTPC disposes 282 cases in 2005

The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) has disposed of 282 cases in the calendar year 2005. This information was given by the Minister of Company Affairs, Mr Prem Chand Gupta, to the Lok Sabha.

The MRTP Act, 1969, under which the Commission has been established, does not make it obligatory for the Commission to keep information regarding acts of monopolies and unfair trade practices. It is obliged to keep information only when based on a complaint or a reference or an information or on an application made by the Director-General (Investigation & Regulation) or on its own it enquires into monopolistic, restrictive or unfair trade practices, the Minister said.
