Mangalore , March 19

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), which is mulling entry into the retail marketing of petroleum products, may present a gift to its customers this Diwali in the form of retail outlets in its brand name.

In an informal chat with presspersons here on Sunday, Mr Subir Raha, Chairman of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd and MRPL, said that ONGC, which set up its first retail outlet in Mangalore last April, has received good response.

"Based on the customer feedback and facility design, we have now decided on new prototypes for both MRPL and ONGC outlets," he said.

Stating that orders have been placed for these outlets, Mr Raha said, "I do hope that by Diwali we will be able to commission the first MRPL outlet."

Good response

Asked about the progress in the commissioning of ONGC's retail outlets under the brand name OVaL (ONGC Values), he said OVaL in Mangalore had received good response on diesel and petrol sales. The only thing here is that it is quite away from the highway. Other new OVaL outlets will be commissioned by Christmas, he said.

ONGC PURA

Earlier, addressing a gathering organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON), Mr Raha said that ONGC PURA Trust and Akshya Patra Foundation of ISKON would work together to implement the vision of the President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, to provide urban amenities in rural areas of the country.

The aim of the trust is to make rural communities self-reliant, both economically and socially, he added. ONGC-MRPL has sponsored a kitchen for Akshya Patra Foundation in Mangalore.
