The proposed Rs 60-crore project to construct the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), General Hospital and the Sri Padmavathi Medical College (SPMC), at Renigunta, near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh has got a shot in the arm.
The State Government has decided to give away 60.66 acres of land free of cost near Renigunta, according to the Chairman of SVIMS Executive Board and Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
The AP Government had earlier allotted 150 acres at the same place. A sum of Rs 68.09 lakh was paid by SVIMS to the Government for alienation of 90.79 acres of land.
The balance has now been given free, according to an official press release here from the Chief Minister's Office.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), has committed to give Rs 30 crore for the project. SVIMS and SPMC cater to the medical needs of the people in the Rayalseema region of the State.
The Chief Minister also permitted the SVIMS to start construction work with the Rs 10 crore available with them.
He said bank loans could be secured as a last resort. Dr Reddy also agreed to invite global tenders for the construction of the SPMC and SVIMS.
