Pune , March 21

After Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai, it is now the turn of Pune to have Tata Elxsi's development centre.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Nitin Pai, Head of Marketing for Product Design Services, Tata Elxsi Ltd, said the new Pune centre would be a `centre of excellence' on the lines of the company's existing global design and development centres in the rest of the country. The Pune centre would assist in product design and development for networking and communications technologies such as voice over Internet protocol (VOIP), wireless LAN (local area network), routing, switching and embedded networking.

Mr Nitin said the centre has been set up with full-fledged infrastructure and would have an initial capacity of 100 engineers, who would be in place within the next six to eight months. This is the phase one ramp up plans, he said.

He added that most of the initial work would be carried out for its Western clients.

Tata Elxsi provides embedded product design services including hardware and software for networking, telecom, semiconductor and electronics manufacturers. Headquartered in Bangalore, the first global centre was set up here in 1991, which was followed by Thiruvananthapuram in 1999 for automobile domain and Chennai in 2005 for wireless.
