Nripendra Misra is new TRAI chief

The former Secretary of the Department of Telecom (DoT), Mr Nripendra Misra, has been appointed the next Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This comes after Mr Pradip Baijal retired today after a three-year stint as the TRAI chief.

Mr Misra, a 1967 IAS officer, had worked in close quarters with the Communications and IT Minister, Mr Dayanidhi Maran, as DoT Secretary and had assisted in formulating some key policy decisions including the Broadband Policy. He served in various administrative field positions and as Special Secretary of Finance of Uttar Radesh. From 1981 to 1985, he was Director in the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Division.
