Alliances & Joint Ventures Industry & Economy - Petroleum New Jamnagar refinery: RIL looking for partner Richa Mishra
Jamnagar , March 29 Reliance Industries Ltd is looking for inducting a strategic partner for its Rs 27,000-crore refinery at Jamnagar in Gujarat. Indications are that the company is in talks with US energy major Chevron and ExxonMobil. Market is abuzz that the RIL Chairman, Mr Mukesh Ambani, who is in the US, is meeting senior executives of Chevron. However, when asked, RIL sources declined to comment. Reliance is understood to be looking for a strategic partner who could provide crude for processing at the new 29-million-tonne unit. Besides, the partner should be able to commit offtake of a certain proportion of the petroleum product made at the new refinery. The new refinery to be set up through its subsidiary Reliance Petroleum Ltd (RPL) will be located in the Jamnagar Special Economic Zone, offering the company several fiscal incentives. Being an export-oriented unit, the company intends to export the bulk of its production. The company is planning to tap the export market in the US and Europe for its products. The unit is expected to have a hydrocracker, which would boost gasoline production. RIL's existing refinery does not have a hydrocracker.
