Entrepreneurship States - Kerala Prathyasa scheme nears target in Ernakulam dist Our Bureau
Kochi , April 13 Prathyasa, the intensive employment generation and enterprise development programme of the State Government, has achieved the target in Ernakulam district with a total of 2,585 enterprises starting operations till the end of March. The Prathyasa scheme was started by the Government with the aim of establishing 2,500 units and providing employment to 10,000 people. The District Industries Centre had received 4,763 applications, of which 2,763 fell under the general SSI category while the rest were in the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) scheme when the call for applications ended.
Eligible applications
According to officials, 4,513 claims were found eligible for being considered for bank linkage after screening of applications. Of them, 2,713 units came under the general SSI category, while 1,800 of them came under the PMRY scheme. Bank linkages were made available to a total of 2,680 units, of which 900 were in the general SSI category while 1,780 fell under the PMRY scheme. The District Industries Centre had provided its share of Rs 1 crore to the units that had started operations under the Prathyasa scheme. The new units had provided employment to 9,012 persons, marginally below the targeted 10,000.
Hits PMRY target
Meanwhile, the centre had also hit the target for PMRY scheme for the third year in succession. The target for the last financial year under the scheme was 2,900 and up to March 31 this year, it had sanctioned the launching of 2,952 units. Of them, 2,361 had received monetary support from the centre. The Ernakulam District Industries Centre has been achieving the target for PMRY since 2003-2004. Banks at the forefront of the achievement include, Canara Bank, State Bank of India, State Bank of Travancore, Union Bank, Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank and the Federal Bank.
