Losing flavour

UNREMUNERATIVE SPICE: A worker collecting cardamom at a collection centre in Kattapana, Kerala. Cardamom growers in the country have cut farm inputs owing to unremunerative prices for the commodity. The prices have declined to around Rs 200 a kg against a remunerative level of Rs 300. Currently, the average price for cardamom is Rs 215 a kg compared with a little over Rs 305 during the same period a year ago.
