3D cartoon developed in over 10,000 hours

BIG PLANS: Ms Malini Subramaniam, President and CEO, Synergy Images, and Mr N Naresh Kumar, GM, at a press conference in Bangalore on Wednesday. - G.R. N. Somashekar

Bangalore , May 10

Meet Zampano — a red-haired, thumb-sized hero of a Bollywood movie. Developed by a Bangalore-based animation firm, Synergy Images, he is the star of Friends Forever, a children's film to be released this year-end.

The 3D animated cartoon Zampano appears for 36 minutes in the movie, which stars Ashmit Patel and Hrishitaa Bhatt and is directed by Soumitro Ranade of Jajantaram Mamantaram fame.

The character is a 3D cartoon, like Stuart Little. It was developed in over 10,000 hours of toil by animators in the city. In the film, Zampano dances a la Hrithik Roshan — the synchrony and body language are life-like.

Synergy invested Rs 1 crore in production and will complete the work in four months' time, said Ms Malini Subramaniam, President & CEO, Synergy Images. The firm plans to set up an animation studio in the city with an investment of $3 million. It is expected to take two years to set up and will house a dorm and training centre.

The privately funded firm is also into game development, carrying out 50 outsourced projects a year. "We are in talks with film producers for mobile gaming too," said Ms Subramaniam.
