More power cuts likely all over AP

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , May 12

With increased pressure on the State electricity system, Andhra Pradesh is poised for more power cuts.

The State has begun to restrict loads due to reduction in power generation at the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar hydel generating stations, and tripping of 500 MW unit II at NTPC Simhadri plant.

According to a statement from APTransco, there has been overall deficit of about 1,300 MW including loss of generation from VTPS 210 MW unit and 120 MW unit at KTPS.

The deficit is being managed by overdrawing from the central generating stations when the system permits.

The Southern Regional Load Despatch centre at Bangalore is importing 400 to 600 MW from other regions of the country to assist the Southern Grid.

The NTPC Simhadri unit and other units affected would be brought back to the system late on Friday, the Transco statement said.

However, the drop in hydel generation, due to lower reservoir levels, has had a significant impact on the State's power supply position.
