Entrepreneurship States - Tamil Nadu `Entrepreneurs must trust associates, respect ethical values' Our Bureau
MR ACHUTHA KRISHNAMOORTHY, Director, IGP group of companies, Chennai, addressing students of Arunai Engineering College, Tiruvannamalai, at a lecture organised by Business Line Club
Tiruvannamalai , May 12 "Do something, however small, each day towards your goal; if you are not born with means, try to start saving; start immediately; you have to trust people, no one is untouchable; trust and respect your associates, partners and staff; respect ethical values" are the essential prerequisites for entrepreneurship, said Mr Achutha Krishnamoorthy, Director, IGP group of companies, Chennai to the students of Arunai Engineering College, Tiruvannamalai, under the Business Line club lecture series. He said, "There may be many routes for an entrepreneur to execute his dreams. The IGP group did not start with a project report. We did not raise outside capital or start with adequate capital. We grew from a tiny cycle shop in Triplicane and a tailoring shop. We grew to this level through excellent customer service, quality, and reasonable price. "Our officers and men come with suggestions for improved processes, cost reduction in procurement and transportation. Together, we have come this far and together we intend to stay put in business." To the students who dream of entrepreneurship, he said, "You can also become entrepreneurs and become great men in industry with "a will to win." Does team work? "Yes," he added, "when you join forces with others, a synergy builds and you end up with something greater than if you had done it on your own." People have great ideas, but organisations have to find a good way to capture them, Mr Krishnamoorthy said. The idea is to make people passionate about their work to drive innovation. The IGP group has a movement called AMSPOT. Its basic precepts are: Treat every associate as a genius; leadership and entrepreneurship are not capabilities reserved only for a few; given the opportunity, these traits will emerge and enrich organisations; be prepared to learn from anybody and everybody; when confronted with a problem, mobilise the genius of associates to solve it; creativity will flourish where there is freedom; humility; financial conservation has to be second nature. Apart from over 350 students of engineering, others present were Dr M. Arumugam, Principal, Arunai Engineering, Mr. S. Suresh, PRO, and Mr S. Sridhar, Assistant Regional General Manager, The Hindu, Chennai.
