Kolkata , May 16

Cognizant Technology Solutions and Calcutta University on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for entering into mutually beneficial activities.

To start with, a section of the faculty members of Calcutta University would be training the newly recruited employees of Cognizant. The training session would start from June with 400 students.

According to Dr Suranjan Das, Pro V-C (Academy) of Calcutta University, this is just a beginning and his institution is looking forward to greater and wider activities in Cognizant.

Though the university would be charging a fee for its services, Dr Das clarified that the earnings are insignificant.

"We are looking forward to R&D activities and more of joint initiatives which would help the industry as well the students," he said.

Partnership agreement

"We are a late-comer in this sort of an industry-academic partnership but we are confident of overtaking the leaders in this area," Mr Das said.

Mr Siddharta Mukherjee, Vice President of Cognizant Technology, said that the initial agreement is for two years but it would be extended in future.

"We are waiting to see the development of this programme," Mr Mukherjee said.
