4 hospitals sign MoU with ISRO

ISRO on Tuesday signed MoUs with four specialty hospitals from across the country to expand its telemedicine network. The additions are Manipal Hospital, Bangalore; Madras Diabetic Research Foundation, Chennai; Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi; and Dr Venkatrao Dawle Medical Foundation, Ambajogai (Maharashtra).

An ISRO release said its telemedicine network started in 2001 now has 165 hospitals — including 132 remote, rural, district hospitals or health centres that are connected to 33 speciality urban hospitals. ISRO provides the software, hardware and communication equipment as well as satellite bandwidth.

The bigger hospitals put in infrastructure, manpower and maintain the system. ISRO Satellite Communications Programme Director, Mr A. Bhaskaranarayana, signed the MoUs with Mr R. Basil, Director and CEO, Manipal Health Systems; Dr V. Mohan, President and Director, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation; Mr T.Jagannathan, CEO of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital; and Dr Arun Dawle, Executive President, Dr Venkatrao Dawle Medical Foundation.
