MAHE announces new initiatives

Bangalore , May 17

In a bid to attract and motivate the best student talent, the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) announced several new initiatives today. Scholarships for 77 top ranking students appearing for the MAHE entrance tests for undergraduate courses will be given from this academic year, for which MAHE has committed Rs 5 crore, said Dr H.S. Ballal, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE.

Another initiative aimed at benefiting the students is study loans in partnership with State Bank of India. "This is for economically backward students irrespective of their state of origin so that bright students are not denied opportunities for higher education for want of adequate financial support," he said.

MAHE is also planning to cover students under an insurance scheme where, in case of death of their parents or guardian before completion of the course, they still get financial support. Next year, students appearing for the MAHE entrance tests can take it online at any of its 25 centres, which is to be set up soon.

MAHE, which reported a turnover of Rs 315 crore this year, will spend about Rs 143 core in the next three years in a sports complex, an Innovation Centre and upgrading the existing infrastructure, according to Dr Ranjan Pai, CEO, Manipal Education and Medical Group.
