Bonds range-bound

Our Bureau

Mumbai, May 22

The bond market was range-bound and prices moved in a 15-paise band in the absence of any positive factors. The falling equity market is affecting sentiments in the bond market. "The fear is that if major players such as LIC step into the equity market to take advantage of the falling share prices, then it could affect liquidity in the bond market to some extent," said a bond dealer with a private bank. Another fear is that if RBI intervenes in the forex market to buy dollars, it could further drain the liquidity, the dealer said. The market is also awaiting the Rs 5,000-crore auction of the 15-year Government paper on Tuesday. The 7.59 paper 10-year 2016 paper opened at Rs 100 (7.59 per cent YTM), touched a low of Rs 99.82 (7.61 per cent YTM) and closed at Rs 99.97 (7.60 per cent YTM), a tad higher than the previous close of Rs 99.95 (7.6 per cent YTM). The 9.39 per cent-5 year-2011 paper opened at Rs 109.45 (7.15 per cent YTM), touched a low of Rs 109.26 (7.18 per cent YTM) and ended trade at Rs 109.32 (7.17 per cent YTM).
