Sical to double fleet strength

Our Bureau

Chennai , May 25

Sical Logistics plans to nearly double its fleet strength to expand its road transportation operations for bulk and containerised cargo during the current year.

According to a press release from the company, Sical will add 300 vehicles in 2006-07, including 80 double-axle trucks and tankers, to its existing fleet of 320. This would involve an expenditure of Rs 50 crore.

The release quoting Sical's Vice-Chairman, Mr Ashwin Muthiah, said the expansion is an indicator of Sical's strength in multimodal logistics. The company's initiatives in container train operations, train terminal at the Nagpur Hub Airport and port terminals and port-side and inland container terminals, will enhance its presence in the segment.

The fleet expansion follows increased business from its major customers like Caltex, Tamil Nadu Petrochemicals, Pepsi India and Shell India, the release said. The company moves over 6,000 tonnes of cargo daily, the release said.
