New Delhi , May 25

Tata Motors has decided to expand its facility in Uttar Pradesh, including the addition of a new assembly line for commercial vehicles, with an investment of Rs 350 crore.

"The expansion will include setting up a paint shop, welding shop and a new assembly line," a company spokesperson said.

Tata Motors Managing Director, Mr Ravi Kant had announced on Wednesday the company's plans in the State after a meeting with the Chief Minister, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav.

With the proposed expansion, the company's production capacity for medium and heavy commercial vehicles will increase to nearly one lakh by the end of 2008.

"Currently we have a capacity of 30,000 units," the spokesperson said.

The investment would create direct or indirect employment opportunities for about 5,000 people in the State.

Mr Yadav, in turn, assured the company that the ancillary units proposed to be set up along with the main unit would also be provided land and other necessary facilities.

He said that the vehicles manufactured by Tata Motors in the State would meet the requirements of rural markets.
