Rupee gains against dollar

Mumbai, June 16

The rupee gained against the dollar buoyed by the upswing in the domestic stock market. The domestic currency opened at 45.92/93 and strengthened through the day. It finally closed at 45.8350/8450, up from Thursday's 45.98.

Dealers said that there was all round selling of dollars by corporates and inter-bank players. "The FII dollar inflows in the market have helped the rupee appreciate against the dollar.

On Monday, if there is a rise in the domestic stock market, the rupee could appreciate to 45.50," said a dealer at a private bank. In the forward premia market, the 6 months ended at 0.94 per cent (0.89) and the 12 months closed at 1.10 per cent (1.07).
