HSL hands over research vessel to NIOT

Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) here has completed the construction of a research vessel - Sagar Manjusha - and it has been handed over to the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai.

Till now, 138 vessels have been constructed by HSL, the oldest ship-building yard in the country, waiting for the promised revival package for a long time.

Sagar Manjusha is an air-conditioned vessel with space for 11 scientists, eight officers and 10 members of the crew.

It is equipped with specialised deck cranes, deep-sea winch with A-frame for carrying out experiments, according to sources.

It has a speed of 12 knots.
