Dust tea steady at Kochi auction

With good general demand, the prices of most varieties of dust tea remained steady at the Kochi tea auction. High priced CTC varieties remained steady, while the price of medium and other varieties increased by Rs 2.

Medium orthodox varieties also remained steady. Medium and below medium CTC witnessed good demand from exporters. There was 10,87,000 kg of dust tea on offer at the auction.

Best CTC dust varieties fetched between Rs 57 and Rs 65, medium between Rs 48 and Rs 56 and below medium quoted at Rs 45-49. High grown BOPD realised Rs 85-110, medium BOPD ranged between Rs 41 and Rs 43 and secondaries quoted at Rs 36-39.

Leaf tea auction

Prices at the leaf tea auction, which had four lakh kg on offer, tended to ease. Medium orthodox varieties remained barely steady, while prices of other categories tended to ease. High grown varieties also remained barely steady.

Good demand for CTC

CTC smaller broken varieties and fannings, particularly the cleaner and blacker sorts witnessed good demand from exporters and the prices rose by Rs 2-4. Exporters remained selective on orthodox leaf grades.

Best Nilgiri leaf varieties fetched between Rs 62 and Rs 67, medium orthodox Rs 45-55 while plain orthodox ranged between Rs 43 and Rs 44. The best CTC leaf fetched Rs 55-58 while medium CTC leaf quoted between Rs 50 and Rs 54.

Kodanad BOPD quoted the top price of Rs 110 at the dust sale, followed by Pasuparai SFD at Rs 91, Pasuparai FD at Rs 91 and Parkside BOPDS at Rs 85. At the leaf auction, Kodanad BOPF quoted Rs 103, Havukal BOPF Rs 99, Havukal OP at Rs 83 and Parkside BOPF at Rs 91.
