Sical Q4 net up at Rs 18.33 crore

Chennai , June 23

Sical Logistics Ltd (formerly, South India Corporation (Agencies) Ltd) has reported a net profit of Rs 18.33 crore for the fourth quarter of last year, compared with Rs 17.72 crore for the same quarter of the previous year.

A `prior period item' of expenditure of Rs 11.41 crore (Rs 1.95 crore) was responsible for the low growth in net profit.

Net sales for the quarter were Rs 269.28 crore (Rs 442.55 crore).

For the full year 2005-06, the company made a net profit of Rs 53.69 crore compared with Rs 27.99 crore in the previous year. Turnover was Rs 960.38 crore (Rs 1,214.83 crore).

The company attributes the fall in turnover to fertiliser transport slowing down and reduced offtake of coal by Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd, with whom Sical has a contract for coal handling.

Yet, net profit was higher because of two reasons. First, the company was able to get higher margins on its other businesses such as trucking and second, with a financial restructure programme, the interest cost came down from Rs 5.47 crore to Rs 1.53 crore in the quarter-periods compared, and from Rs 43.57 crore to Rs 26.53 crore in the compared annual periods.
