Mumbai , June 26

Flag Telecom of the Reliance Communications group and Omantel signed an agreement to make Oman a telecommunication link between West Asia and Africa.

The agreements were signed by the Omantel Executive President, Mr Mohammed Bin Ali Al Wahaibi and the Executive President of Flag Telecom Company, Mr Punit Garg. The ceremony was attended by Mr Anil Ambani, Board Chairman of Reliance Communications, according to a statement.

One of the agreements is to make Oman a link between Africa and West Asia in the Flag's loop cable project, relating to the extension of communication links to Egypt and Hong Kong via marine cables with multiple landings in the Gulf region. Under the project, Omantel will seek to extend the African cable through a network of marine cables to converge at Seeb and Khasab in Oman.
