Spot rubber prices improve

Aravindan

Kottayam , June 30

Physical rubber rates improved on Friday. Covering groups and purchase agents kept the market slightly firm, as there were no quantity sellers in main marketing centres.

Certain major manufacturers were reported to be active at lower levels but they maintained a low profile to avoid an upswing in prices. Sheet rubber RSS 4 moved up to Rs 106.50 from Rs 106 a kg at Kottayam. The grade continued to rule steady at Rs 106.50 a kg at Kochi.

Futures weak

The rubber futures showed signs of weakness on NMCE. The July contract was quoted at Rs 108.29 (Rs 108.50), August at Rs 109.55 (Rs 109.55), September at Rs 106.50 (Rs 106.65) and October at Rs 103.80 (Rs 104.15) per kg for RSS 4.Spot prices (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4: Rs 106.50 (Rs 106.00); RSS-5: Rs 103.00 (Rs 102.00); ungraded: Rs 97.00 (Rs 96.50); ISNR 20: Rs 100.50 (Rs 100.00) and latex 60 per cent: Rs 78.40 (Rs 78.40).
