New Delhi , July 1 The three privately-owned scheduled domestic airlines, Jet Airways, Sahara Airlines and Air Deccan, collectively posted an operating profit of more than Rs 894.85 crore during 2004-05 compared with a collective operating loss of more than Rs 140.3 crore posted by Air India, Indian and Alliance Air. The latest data collated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shows that during 2004-05, Jet Airways accounted for a lions share of the operating revenues recorded by the private sector scheduled airline. Of the total revenues of Rs 6,448.33 crore recorded by the private sector scheduled airlines during 2004-05, Jet Airways registered a revenue of Rs 4,339.77 crore, while Sahara Airlines recorded Rs 1,788 crore, and Air Deccan registered revenues of Rs 320.28 crore. During the year, while Jet Airways and Sahara Airlines reported an operating profit of Rs 75.88 crore and Rs 14.85 crore respectively, Air Deccan reported an operating loss of Rs 12.5 crore. With regard to the public sector, Air India registered an operating revenue of Rs 7,459.66 crore against an operating revenue of Rs 5,333.12 crore recorded by Indian. The Indian subsidiary, Alliance Air, recorded an operating revenue of Rs 653.58 crore. However, Indian was the only public sector airline to report operating profit at Rs 62.04 crore during the year under review. Both AI and AA reported operating losses of Rs 172.91 crore and Rs 29.49 crore respectively. The data shows that during the year, Indian on an average carried 19,462 passengers daily including more than 14,800 domestic passengers while Jet Airways carried 22,288 passengers almost all of whom were in the domestic market. In comparison, Air Sahara reported carrying 7,423 passengers daily, a majority of whom were in the domestic sector. The two private sector also carried some international passengers as they were given permission to launch limited international operations in 2004. Both the airlines launched their international operations in March 2004 with flights from Chennai to Colombo.
