Xenitis plans chip unit in Fab City

Hyderabad , July 2

Xenitis Infotech Ltd, the Kolkata-based technology company, has come up with a proposal to establish a Rs 1,200-crore chip making facility in the Fab City near here.

The President and Chief Financial Officer of Xenitis, Mr Ambar Mukherji, said that he met the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, with the proposal, and was assured of necessary support for the project.

Xenitis, manufacturer of personal computer and certain computer parts, believes that it has excellent long-term relationships with Taiwanese and Chinese hardware manufacturers and the move to set up a manufacturing base for chips for mobile phones would be a logical extension. The project would be taken up in three phases of Rs 400 crore each, and part-funded through debt and equity.

"We are already in parleys with certain financial institutions in the country, which have agreed to support the project,'' he said.
