Accenture scaling up BI capabilities

To set up centres for data migration & analytics

Bangalore , July 2

Accenture is scaling up its business intelligence (BI) capabilities in India and as part of this initiative is setting up two centres of excellence in Bangalore to showcase its solutions.

Mr Stephen Gallagher, Senior Director, Accenture Information Management Services, said the centresbeing set up are in the areas of data migration and analytics. Mr Gallagher also said the company planned to double its BI team in India over the next two years.

The current expansion is driven by strong demand for BI solutions in the marketplace, Mr Gallagher said, even while refusing to spell out the specific numbers. But, it is estimated that Accenture has close to 1,000 people working on BI projects in India at present.

Increasing demand

The demand for BI solutions is on the rise as companies world-over are beginning to recognise the need to understand the data that's being generated by them, he said. It is estimated that 800 MB of recorded information is produced per person each year. The structured and semi-structured data, including databases and messaging applications, had grown at 30-50 per cent on an annual basis, he said.

India focus

India is the second largest geography within Accenture's global delivery network with a total headcount of over 19,000 as of end-May. Accenture is leveraging its India resources for undertaking complex, high-end work across software delivery cycles, Mr Gallagher said.

"The India team is involved right from designing the BI roadmap, to build the solution and even maintaining and supporting it," he added.

The expansion of BI capabilities in India is part of the three-year, $100 million initiative that Accenture announced last year to build out its information management services, Mr Gallagher said. It is estimated that Accenture has some 9,000 people globally who specialise in information management, including business intelligence and content management.
