Agricultural Policy Agri-Biz & Commodities - Pulses States - Andhra Pradesh Pulses: AP to hike MSP by Rs 350/quintal Our Bureau
Hyderabad , July 3
With a view to encourage farmers to diversify more into pulses, the Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to increase the minimum support price (MSP) by Rs 350 a quintal. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said that the State would increase the MSP irrespective of Centre's decision to hike or not to hike it. The decision was expected to benefit 14 lakh farmers growing red gram, black gram and green gram, a Government press release said. The farmers growing red gram would get Rs 1,750 a quintal against the present Rs 1,400. The MSP for black gram and green gram was fixed at Rs 1,520. At a review meeting here on Monday, the Chief Minister said the State would appeal to the Centre to hike the MSP for these pulses. Dr Reddy, who will attend the Chief Ministers' Conference in New Delhi on July 5, would urge the Centre to make it mandatory for blending of petrol with 20 per cent ethanol. He would also ask the Government to fix procurement price for oil companies. "This will help the farmers significantly," the release said.
