The Indian Merchants' Chamber (IMC), which is entering its centenary year, will launch its celebrations on July 18 in the presence of the President, Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
The chamber proposes to provide a global platform to Indian business and bridge the gaps of globalisation.
As part of the celebrations, the chamber will release a commemorative stamp by Mr Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister for Communications and IT, on September 7, the founding day of IMC. Apart from this, IMC will initiate activities throughout the year including a conference with Asia Pacific countries for higher business interaction.
The highlight event of the celebrations will be its India Calling 2006 Conference, which will be held in London in October, providing Indian companies an international exposure.
Mr Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC Ltd, will chair the centenary year celebrations committee.
Addressing a press conference he said, "Our role will be to develop the blueprint for the celebrations and usher in a renaissance."
Mr Nayan Patel, President of IMC, said, "Our main focus will be to bridge the gaps of globalisation, improve bilateral trade as well as provide exposure to Indian SMEs."
