TransCare Logistics gets Kochi port biz plan contract

The consultant should identify capacity expansion and improvements needed to meet the future traffic requirements of the Kochi port.

Kochi , July 5

TransCare Logistics India Pvt Ltd has been awarded the business plan contract of the Kochi port after completing the technical and financial evaluation phases of the Cochin Port Trust.

The officials in TransCare Logistics said that the Kochi port is one of the prospective ports and the company would leverage its international experience in port consulting and inter modal connectivity to create a competitive port and develop a lead competitor to the Port of Colombo in transhipment business.

TransCare Logistics India Pvt Ltd is part of the TransCare Group of companies, a consulting group headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, and with offices in Moscow, Russia and New Delhi.

TransCare's consulting services is focusing on port and rail infrastructure as well as supply chain assignments.

TransCare also plans to set up its office at the Kochi port in the coming week and meet port officials to kick off the project along with TransCare's Global CEO and President, Mr Ralf Jahncke.

TransCare was awarded the European Innovation Award for multi modal transportation in 1997, the officials said.

The port's intention was to engage international consultants to assist in preparing the business plan that will establish goals to be achieved over the next seven years.

The port had received six bids and of this, three were short-listed. The port has also given a time-frame for TransCare to submit its interim report by September and the final report by November, the officials added.

The consultant should also identify capacity expansion and improvements needed to meet the future traffic requirements including terminal infrastructure development, channel and harbour dredging, acquisition of handling equipment and IT systems, environmental improvements and other capital projects required to keep the port competitive.

By location, Kochi is well connected to the rest of the country through the network of national highways and railways, officials said.

The city is also closer to the economic powerhouses of West Asia and South East Asia, they added.
