To hold event on management successes on July 22

Chennai , July 8

The Madras Management Association (MMA) plans to build a convention centre with world-class facilities. It also plans to build an IIM-like management institute in Chennai. "We have approached the Union Government for this. If an IIM is not possible, we would still promote the project," said Major S. Lakshmanan, Executive Director, MMA.

Both projects will take 2-3 years to complete and may require 20-100 acres of land. MMA has zeroed in on East Coast Road, Old Mahabalipuram Road and a location within the city for the projects.

Interactive event

On July 22, MMA will hold an interactive event on management successes called "face to face with success". Speakers include Dr J.J. Irani, Director, Tata Sons, Dr R.A. Mashelkar, Director-General, CSIR and Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Motor Company Ltd.

The session will discuss issues such as bringing about the culture of innovation, creating growth opportunities, ensuring accountability to stakeholders in a family-owned business and creating world class Indian managers. The event will be web-cast all over India and a video-conference facility will be provided at select locations like Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

Awards of excellence

Concluding its year-long golden jubilee celebrations on July 16, MMA will honour its past presidents and some of its executive directors. As part of the function, Awards of Excellence for best management practices will be given. This year's winners are Coimbatore-based auto component manufacturers Pricol (in the manufacturer's category), Indian Bank (in the services category) and Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) (in the education category).

A coffee table book commemorating the golden jubilee celebrations will be released. This will include speeches from the recently concluded series on "India's time has come". DVDs of these speeches as well as another series of interactions, "Golden Successes of Chennai", will be released.
