Search for talent: Recruiters need to partner with companies

Chennai , July 8

That there's a crisis is palpable. Recruiters across the country are putting their heads together to fight the most challenging task on hand for Corporate India: the growing demand-supply gap for talent.

At a meeting of the Executive Recruiters Association (ERA) in Chennai on Friday, there was a consensus on the need to partner with corporates to find a solution to this problem.

Titled `Partnering for talent search in the new ERA,' the conference discussed issues such as bringing professionalism into the Indian recruitment industry, interim employment opportunities for women and future of background checks.

`Improve penetration'

Mr Pandia Rajan, CEO, Ma Foi Consultants, advised recruitment firms to move beyond search, selection and staffing. "Like in other countries, convergence of HR services such as development of HR software, automation, assessment services, training and outsourcing is necessary." The depth of penetration of the recruitment industry, which now stands at 20 per cent, has to improve, he felt.

Mr Srinivas Rao, Director, HR, Sasken Technologies, called for a partnership between recruiters and companies to improve response time. "Client companies could train recruitment company staff in technologies, job description and skills description," he suggested.

Ms Uma Krishnan, COO, Optimus (Polaris), talked of 3M (the middle management monster) that took away women from the mid-management cadre due to personal pressures.
