Agricultural Institutions Industry & Economy - Education States - Tamil Nadu TNAU, Mexico's Monterrey Tech sign MoU Our Bureau
Coimbatore , July 12 The Tamilnadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has entered into collaborative research programmes with Mexico's private university, Technologico De Monterrey or Monterrey Tech as it is called. An MoU to this effect was today signed between the TNAU and the Monterry Tech at the TNAU premises in which a four-member delegation from the Mexican university led by its Vice-Chancellor, Dr Roberto Rueda, was present. This is the first time a Latin American university is entering into a technical collaboration agreement with the TNAU.
MoU content
The two universities will exchange expertise and technologies in the areas of energy, environment management and agriculture biotechnology with particular focus on microbial bioremediation (to handle soil contamination and waste-water treatment), biodiesel from jatropha and nano-technology in agriculture (in areas of nano-herbicide application and ground water detoxification). The TNAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ramasamy, said the collaboration would pave way for students and faculty exchanges between the two universities besides facilitating joint research projects. The collaborative project with Monterrey Tech would be initially for a three-year period.
Advantages for India
Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, Dr Rueda said his university which has technical tie-ups with 300 universities in different parts of the world has some strong areas of `opportunity' in agriculture and environment technologies including bio-diesel. Its proximity to the US would be another strength which India can take advantage.
