New Projects Industry & Economy - Steel Arcelor-Mittal project: Orissa forms joint working team Our Bureau
Bhubaneswar , July 13 The Orissa Government has constituted a joint working group to facilitate setting up of the proposed 12-million-tonne capacity steel plant by L.N. Mittal-owned Arcelor-Mittal in the State. The working group will be headed by the State Chief Secretary, Mr Subas Pani. The eight-member team will have three members from Arcelor-Mittal. The other members of the group will be the Secretary in the State Government's Steel and Mines Department, Special Secretary in the Commerce and Transport Department, the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Orissa Ltd , and the Managing Director of Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.

After his meeting with the Arcelor chief, Mr Mittal here on July 7, the Orissa Chief Minister, Mr Naveen Patnaik, had indicated about the formation of a core group to finalise details of the proposed steel project before the signing of a formal memorandum of understanding. An expert group from Arcelor-Mittal is scheduled to arrive here on July 17 to hold further discussions with State Government officials. The company team will study the location of the proposed plant, availability of iron ore and other infrastructure facilities.
