New Rs 1,000 denomination notes

Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 13

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue Rs 1,000 denomination banknotes with inset letter `L' in both numbering panels in the Mahatma Gandhi series bearing the signature of Governor, Dr Y.V. Reddy.

Except for the change in the inset letter, the design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the banknotes issued earlier on October 21, 2005 under the Mahatma Gandhi series with additional/new security features. A RBI release also said that all banknotes in the denomination of Rs 1000 issued by the bank after the year 2000 would continue to be legal tender.
