Madurai, July 16

Permits for 3000 additional minibuses would be issued soon, the Transport Minister, Mr K.N. Nehru, said, while speaking at the inauguration of new bus routes in Tiruchi City on Friday. A proposal for improving the metropolitan transport system at Chennai at an estimated cost of Rs 1,300 crore has been forwarded to the Union Urban Development Ministry for financial support, he said, and added that stern action would follow if the crew of the State Transport Corporation buses skipped scheduled bus halts in an attempt to avoid taking free student bus pass holders.
