This is with reference to the front page photograph of a farmer from Kadlabad village in Bidar district, Karnataka "Agrarian distress" (Business Line, July 14): .

Short-term solutions, such as loan waivers, are not enough. Why not think of a surplus-generating policy rather than a debt-burdening one?
